Cabo Pulmo – Trophy Fly Fishing
“A rude dude
The real deal
Lean and mean
Cocked, locked and ready to rock,
Rough tough and hard to bluff,” George Carlin
There are few beaches in this world that you can sight and cast to a 20, 40 or 60 pound Rooster fish that is on the make. You don’t know whether you are in the moment and on the edge or dodging a bullet and the experience of a good shot will leave your heart pounding. Check out the DVD “Running Down the Man” at your local flyshop or order a copy from feltsoulmedia.com. It was shot at and around Pappagallo. The season for sight casting to roosters is April through July with May and June being peak. Look out for the movie ‘In Search of Grande’ coming out in 2015. Check it out at the Fly Fishing Film Festival or your local fly fishing shop. This was filmed out of Pappagallo.
Other than fishing out the door of Pappagallo, the rooster fishing continues much further up the coast but normally there is no reason to travel to the far reaches other than to see new water. Los Frailes, at about 10 miles is as far south as we would go. Puenta Arena is prime water and 10 to 20 minutes away depending on where you begin. There can be good action all the way beyond the Los Barrilles area which is over 30 beach miles north. We can change locations some throughout the day but for the most part we are on the beach ready for action.

The East Cape of Baja California Sur provides a unique opportunity to run down the man and sight cast to this most spectacular sport fish. “Running Down the Man” was filmed here in ’06 and Pappagallo is located rooster central on a quiet beach that has no public vehicle access.
